Abstract

The development of public transportation has received increasing attention and investment from the capital government of Hanoi. However, a current significant challenge is the gradual loss of the public’ love given to the public transport as a result of the prevalence of the risky driving behaviours of bus drivers. Aiming to explore the reasons for speeding to go through yellow light, we carry out this research using the self-reported data from 320 drivers who are working on the bus routes operated by Hanoi Transport Corporation Ltd. (Transerco). The findings indicate that the pressure related to the working timetable, traffic congestion, and on-board environments play the roles as the main facilitators of yellow-light running. As well as this, well-experienced drivers who violated the company’s regulations are found to be more likely engage in that behaviour. Based on the factors found, we propose some solutions to limit speeding to go through yellow light
